SOFTBALL: LONG BALL DELIVERS 6A CROWN FOR CUMBERLAND VALLEY

SOFTBALL: LONG BALL DELIVERS 6A CROWN FOR CUMBERLAND VALLEY

Making its third straight trip to the PIAA District III Class 6A softball championships, Cumberland Valley was stymied through the first five innings and trailed Chambersburg by a run in the May 29 final that was moved to Shippensburg University.

Until the bottom of sixth inning, that is. It was then that starting pitcher Sydney May strolled up to the plate with a runner on base and hit one over the fence in left field, putting the Eagles ahead.

May then held the Trojans at bay in the top of the seventh and Cumberland Valley won it's fourth overall District III softball title, second in three years, 2-1.

Chambersburg was gunning for District III softball title No. 14, which is the most any school has earned.
